Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis is performed at home, either during the day or while you sleep! It is performed daily.  A catheter is surgically placed into the abdomen and the patient is trained to instill a specialized sterile fluid (called PD fluid) into the catheter. When the fluid is drained out, the toxins are removed with it. When peritoneal dialysis is performed every night while you sleep, it allows you full freedom to go about your business during the day. When peritoneal dialysis is performed during the day, it can be scheduled to allow for the freedom to be able to go to work, school, or perform other activities. As with home hemodialysis, we have a nurse on call 24/7 should any issue arise.
