Kidney Failure

Our kidneys remove body wastes and excess fluids which come out in our urine. When the kidneys fail, the wastes (toxins) build up in the body, and fluid levels rise. In severe kidney failure, the high levels of toxins can cause coma and death. Also, the large fluid accumulation in the body enters the lungs and can lead to shortness of breath and eventually to respiratory failure and death. These excess toxins and fluids, which accumulate, can be removed from the bodies of patients with severe kidney failure by the process of dialysis, either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
