About Us
Our History
The Lower Manhattan Dialysis Center had its origins in 1971 in Midtown Manhattan when our physician founders, with 3 dialysis stations, were among the first in New York to offer dialysis to patients whose kidneys had failed.
Since then we have grown exponentially, providing dialysis to hundreds of patients who come to us from across all 5 boroughs as well as from out-of-state. But despite our growth, we remain committed to our original mission of offering the best medical care for patients with kidney disease. Our dialysis centers remain wholly owned and operated by physicians, not by large dialysis corporations. Studies show that patients who go to dialysis centers owned by nephrologists, such as ours, need fewer medications and these centers have a higher probability of being able to receive dialysis in the comfort of their own homes.
We have a personal interest in each one of our patients. We start the process of listing each patient for a kidney transplant as soon as they start on dialysis, and we boast one of the highest ◉ transplantation rates in New York State. Those who elect not to be transplanted can be confident that they will receive the very best medical and dialysis care to maximally improve their health and well-being. Some of our patients have remained well on dialysis for over 30 years! ◉
